What wears out on a Jøtul
Wood stoves and wood inserts

- Door and glass gaskets flatten over time.
- Door glass can crack, or turn cloudy from smoldering fires and wet wood
- Firebrick cracks and crumbles, which exposes the cast iron to direct flame
- Baffles and secondary air parts warp or burn out, so the stove burns faster and dirtier
- Connector pipe and flue collect creosote, which weakens the draft and raises the risk of a chimney fire
A stove with tired gaskets burns hotter and faster than it should. A tight seal is the first step in getting more heat from each load of wood.
Gas stoves and gas inserts
Jøtul's gas models have their own common problems. These include a pilot that won't stay lit, a worn thermocouple or thermopile, a dirty burner that produces a weak or uneven flame, a failing glass gasket, and venting problems that cause shutdowns. We clean and adjust the burner, test the ignition components and check the vent run.
What the visit covers
Cracks in the firebox let heat reach the framing behind it. Worn gaskets and glass on inserts and gas units waste heat and can leak exhaust.
Diagnosis
What is failing and why.
Options
Repair, replace a part, or reline — explained plainly.
Work
Done once you approve the scope.
Check
Draft and operation are tested afterwards.
If smoke comes into the room
Stop adding fuel, open a window and don't relight the fire until the chimney has been checked. If the smoke is heavy, an alarm sounds or you suspect a chimney fire, get everyone outside and call 911.

- Doors, glass and gaskets

Before the technician arrives
- Let the fireplace or stove cool completely — ideally no fire for 24 hours before the visit.
- Note the make and model of any insert, stove or gas unit if you have it.
- Keep pets in another room while the work area is open.
- Write down what you've noticed and when it happens — smells, smoke, sounds or stains.
Outdoor Jøtul Terrazza fireplace repair
The Terrazza is Jøtul's outdoor gas fireplace, and life outside changes what goes wrong. Rain, pollen, leaves and insects get into burner ports and the ignition area. Spiders and wasps nesting in gas passages are a well-known cause of weak or lopsided flames on outdoor units. A winter without a cover can also corrode connections. We clean the burner and ignition, check the gas connection and get the fireplace lighting reliably again. If the patio needs a new gas line, we can install that too.
