Drolet Fireplace Repair

Drolet wood stoves, inserts and fireplaces are built to burn hard, and the parts that take that heat wear out on a predictable schedule. We repair those parts, and we check whether the original setup is part of the problem.

Drolet fireplace repair for stoves, inserts and fireplaces

Drolet makes wood-burning appliances built around a steel firebox, a firebrick lining, a baffle that slows hot gases on their way out, and secondary air tubes that help burn off smoke before it reaches the flue. Each of those parts wears with use. A professional Drolet fireplace repair contractor should be able to show you which one is failing rather than steering you toward a whole new unit.

Fireplace repair
  • Door and glass: flattened or frayed gaskets, cracked ceramic glass, loose latches, handled through fireplace glass replacement and door repair.
  • Firebrick and baffle: cracked or crumbling bricks, a sagging or broken baffle board, warped air tubes.
  • Draft: smoke rolling out when the door opens, slow start-ups, a fire that won't stay lit.
  • Overfiring damage: discolored steel or warped parts from running the unit too hot. Burning dry, split wood as described in our notes on fireplace efficiency slows this kind of wear.

Drolet repair work often overlaps with the chimney, because a dirty or poorly sized flue produces many of the same symptoms as a worn gasket. This guide to the parts of a fireplace shows where the baffle hands off to the flue.

How the visit works

A damaged smoke chamber is a common cause of smoke spilling into the room. Cracks in the firebox let heat reach the framing behind it.

  1. Find the cause

The firebox, damper, smoke chamber and any doors, glass or panels are checked.

  2. Confirm the type

Masonry or factory-built — the repair has to suit the system.

  3. Explain the fix

You hear the options and what each involves before work starts.

  4. Repair and test

The work is done and the fireplace is checked before you use it.

Signs to watch for

  • A damper that won't open or close
  • Cracked or missing firebrick or refractory panels
  • Rust or warping inside the firebox
  • Smoke coming into the room

Carbon monoxide

A blocked or damaged flue can push carbon monoxide into the home. If an alarm sounds or anyone feels dizzy or sick near the fireplace, get everyone outside and call 911.

Before the technician arrives

  • Write down what you've noticed and when it happens — smells, smoke, sounds or stains.
  • Keep pets in another room while the work area is open.
  • Let the fireplace or stove cool completely — ideally no fire for 24 hours before the visit.
  • Move rugs, photos and anything fragile away from the work area.

Checked on every visit

  • Doors, glass and gaskets
  • Damper operation
  • Draft from the opening
  • Firebrick or refractory panels
  • Mortar joints inside the firebox

Was your Drolet fireplace expertly installed?

Some problems blamed on the stove are really installation problems. A Drolet fireplace expertly installed has proper clearances to walls and trim, adequate floor protection, a connector pipe with sound joints and the right rise, and, for an insert, a liner sized to the outlet that runs the full height of the chimney. Skip any of those and you get weak draft, smoke spillage or heat landing where it shouldn't.

Drolet listings tied to other regions

Drolet is sold through dealers across North America, so searches often turn up showrooms and listings attached to places nowhere near Connecticut. Those pages may describe your model, but service has to come from someone who can reach your home. Before calling, find the rating plate on the unit and note the model and serial number; it makes identifying parts much quicker.

FAQ

Drolet Fireplace Repair: common questions

The questions that come up most, answered plainly. Anything else, just ask.

Can the glass on a Drolet door be replaced without replacing the whole door?

Usually, yes. The ceramic glass panel is replaced on its own along with its gasket, as long as the door frame isn't warped. Never substitute ordinary window or tempered glass; it can't handle stove temperatures.

My Drolet smokes when I open the door. Is that the stove or the chimney?

It can be either. A cold flue, a blocked cap, a missing or undersized liner, or a house short on make-up air can all cause it, and so can a damaged baffle. We check the stove and the venting together so you don't pay to fix the wrong one.

Should I keep burning while I wait for a repair?

Not if the glass is cracked, the door won't latch, firebrick is missing or smoke is entering the room. A tired gasket alone is less urgent but makes the fire hard to control. Estimates are free, and same-day service is offered where the schedule allows.

Do you work on prefab fireplaces?

Yes, within the manufacturer's listing: panels, doors, dampers and chase tops are the usual repairs.
