Common problems behind Dimplex fireplace repair calls
A Dimplex electric fireplace combines two systems in one cabinet: a flame effect and a fan-forced heater. One can fail while the other keeps working, and that is often the first clue to where the fault is.

| What you notice | Where we usually look |
|---|---|
| Flames frozen, or the flicker has stopped | The flicker motor or rotating rod, which can wear out or seize |
| Flame effect dim or dark, but the heater works | The lighting or its wiring connection |
| Heater blows cold air | The heat setting, the thermostat, the heating element or the thermal cutoff |
| Unit shuts off after a few minutes | Overheat protection tripping, often caused by dust or blocked vents |
| No response to the remote | Remote batteries, receiver pairing or the control board |
| Clicking, rattling or grinding | The blower fan or the flicker motor |
| Water-vapor flame model no longer makes mist | The reservoir, the mist components or mineral buildup |
Before you call, check three things: the unit is plugged into a working outlet, the breaker hasn't tripped, and the remote has fresh batteries. If all three are fine, the problem is inside the unit. Electric units still need clear space around their vents, and basic fireplace safety habits apply to them too.
What the visit covers
A unit on a busy or undersized circuit can trip the breaker and run poorly. Dust in the heater and blocked air vents are a common cause of overheating shutdowns.
Listen first
What it does and doesn't do, and since when.
Check the power
Outlet or hardwired circuit, plug, cord and breaker.
Test the parts
Heater, fan, thermal cutoff, lighting and controls are tested one at a time.
Explain
What failed, and whether a repair or a replacement part makes sense.
Checked on every visit
- Blower fan and air vents
- Flame-effect motor and lighting
- Outlet, plug, cord or hardwired connection
- Breaker and circuit load
- Control board, wall switch and remote receiver
If it smells hot or trips the breaker
Switch it off, unplug it or turn off its breaker, and don't use it until it has been checked. Keep curtains and furniture clear of the heater outlet.
Signs it's time for Dimplex fireplace repair
- The unit shuts itself off after a few minutes
- A hot or burning-plastic smell
- The flame effect works but no heat comes out
- No response to the remote or the wall control
- The heater runs but the flame effect is dark or frozen
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear space around the unit so its vents and back panel can be reached.
- Write down what happens and when: at start-up, after a few minutes, or only on heat.
- If it smells hot or trips the breaker, unplug it or switch off its breaker until the visit.
- Note the make and model from the label if you can find it.
Dimplex fireplace repair in Connecticut
We repair Dimplex wall-mount, freestanding and built-in electric fireplaces in Hartford and around Connecticut. That includes electric inserts set into old masonry openings. Repair usually makes sense when the cabinet and display are in good shape and the fault is a replaceable motor, heater or board. When an older unit's parts are no longer available, replacement may be the better value. In that case, look at our Dimplex installation service, or electric fireplace inserts if you're filling an existing firebox.
If your home also has a wood-burning stove that needs work, we handle that as well, including wood stove and fireplace repair. One visit can cover more than one appliance.
