Color changing fireplaces: what you're choosing
Nearly every color fireplace is electric. LED lighting behind a screen or glass creates the flame, and you set the color from a remote, control panel or app. Most units also have a heater that runs separately, so you can enjoy the flame in July without warming the room.

- Wall-mounted units hang like a TV and need little more than solid backing and an outlet.
- Recessed linear built-ins sit inside a framed wall or media unit for a flush look.
- Inserts are sized to slide into an existing fireplace opening.
- Water-vapor units pair colored light with a fine mist for a more three-dimensional flame.
Dynamic flame color fireplace installation
Dynamic or cycling modes slowly shift the flame and ember-bed colors. They look best when the unit is at seated eye level and out of direct sunlight or glare from a bright window. We also plan around the heater outlet, since anything mounted above it, including a TV, needs the clearance the manual specifies. How electric fireplace installation works shows one popular line with multi-color settings.
Insert multi color water fireplace
Water-vapor inserts sit inside a firebox and run from a refillable reservoir, so we position them where the tank is easy to reach. Before any insert goes into an old wood fireplace, we close off the flue to keep heat in and stop cold air from dropping into the room. A new fireplace damper installation is often the cleanest way to seal it.
What happens during the visit
Clearances to combustibles are set by the manufacturer and the building code. A unit sized for the room heats comfortably; one far too large makes the space too warm.

Opening, clearances and the vent route.

Test fire, draft check and a walk-through.
What we look at
- Hearth extension and protection
- Gas supply or electrical needs
- Required clearances to combustibles
- Permit requirements
- Opening or framing dimensions
Signs to watch for
- A worn-out insert or stove
- A damaged factory-built unit past repair
- An open fireplace that sends most of its heat up the chimney
- A remodel that adds or moves a fireplace
If you smell gas
Leave the home right away, don't use switches or phones inside, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
Getting ready for the visit
- Make sure the technician can reach the roof or attic access if it's needed.
- Move rugs, photos and anything fragile away from the work area.
- Clear a few feet of space in front of the hearth or appliance.
- Keep pets in another room while the work area is open.
Color fireplace installs across Connecticut
Where we install multi color fireplaces
We install multi color fireplaces for homeowners in Hartford and throughout Connecticut, and we work only in Connecticut. If you found this page while searching from another state, look for an installer who serves your area.
Power is the planning step most people overlook. Smaller units plug into a standard outlet, while larger built-ins may need a dedicated circuit. We'll tell you what your model requires during the free estimate. If you'd rather keep a real wood fire and just refresh the opening, new fireplace doors may be the better project. Our fireplace safety guide covers clearances for every type of unit.
